Make bus stops closer to each other at intersections where commuters transfer to other bus lines so that they don't miss their connection because they have to cross the street to get to their bus stop.
Bus and Rail Service
Well, I got here by way of a link on the home page asking the question 'what would make you ride transit?' So, my answer is that it's something that's not going to happen, if it happens at all, for quite some time. Many of the city & residential areas in this county are simply not designed for frequent & affordable public transportation. They're designed for cars (big wide streets & lanes). There is a small effort... more »
For Line 180 Express, instead of having the line enter/exit I-880 from Great Mall Parkway, the line should enter/exit I-880 to/from Montague Expwy., then take Montague to Great Mall Parkway, then turn into the Great Mall Transit Center, thus creating faster service to/from San Jose and Milpitas.
Currently, CalTrain monthly pass holders who purchase a two (2) zone ticket ($112.75 for adults) receive local credit on buses and light rail (for which the VTA adult pass costs $70 per month). I would like something analogous for the VTA Express passes. If someone, for example, holds a three zone ($159.00 for adults), they would get free rides on all VTA Express buses. Typically, I buy four zone CalTrain passes... more »
Promote electronic cards, while reducing paper usage for passes.
Express light rail service should stop at Taimien also. This is a very popular transfer station to the Caltrain. It doesn't make sense not to stop at the Taimien stop.
Reduce the price of the day pass for non-express buses. Over the past two months I have become very familiar with the system. Most of the time however it is not worth getting a day pass because of the cost of the pass and the time it takes to travel from destinations, including waiting at bus stops. If the price of the day pass was reduced to 4 or 5 dollars, I would be more likely to use VTA.
As we know that VTA does not cover each and every location and even when there is coverage the frequency of buses is very low. There are quite a few people who want to use public transit like light rail atleast part of their commute and the other part by their cars. Unlike caltrain , vta has very little park & ride lots. This makes it very difficult for commuters who want to use cars as part of their commute. VTA should... more »
Everybody knows that public transit in America is a chicken and egg problem. People don't ride transit because the buses and trains aren't frequent and since people don't ride it frequently, there is no way a system can be built. A good incentive structure should be built for commuters to ride transit. Single, one-off, my-car-is-broken rides should be discouraged by increasing single ride fares and decreasing the fares... more »
For home Skarks games, run a line similar to the Muni Metro S line that runs from the Market St. Subway to ATT park every home game. Run this line from Santa Teresa, then after Convention Center make a left turn (the tracks already exist) towards the rest of the Vasona line, and terminate at Diridon Station. Do a better job promoting the line, and have the Sharks advertise riding the train to the game, as parking along... more »
Caltrain works very well if you want to go quickly from San Jose to points north/west. VTA's light rail lines have some quite fast sections south of Downtown San Jose. Together, they could make a rapid transit network that can take transit riders all the way across the county quickly, in the way that freeways do for drivers. But the connections are often poorly timed, especially between the Caltrain and the Santa Teresa... more »
VTA needs to adopt a time-based fare collection policy system wide. Currently, on light rail, $2.00 buys you 2 hours of travel. You can change trains or reverse direction as long as you don’t exceed the expiration time stamped on the ticket. However, if you need to use the bus, you have to pay every time you board. If you have to take more than one bus, or a bus and a train, you’re penalized by the arbitrary geography... more »
Hello - I live at Shoreline Blvd and Hwy 101 - it would be GREAT if the Southbound Route on Bus 40 could be re-configured to go up Shoreline Blvd or up Moffatt/Castro (to El Camino and still stop at San Antonio Center); so that it goes closer to or into downtown Mountain View. As it is now, I have to take Route 40 to San Antonio Shopping Center and then transfer to Route 35 to go BACK into Downtown Mtn View; which is... more »
