Paint Buses Attractive Colors

How do you get 22-year-old college students to continue to take buses after college? How do you get 28-year-old professionals who want to help the environment, but who have never taken a bus, to consider stepping on a bus? The outside of our buses are the best opportunity to advertise them to potential riders ... or drive people away. How the buses are painted matters a lot. Right now buses are painted white with... more »

Online, Near-realtime Bus/Train display

I suggest you add real-time, online bus tracking. I'm sure that you're already collecting the GPS coordinates of all of the buses regularly. Now imagine if that data could be overlaid on Bing Maps or Google Maps or Map Quest or Yahoo! Maps.... I could pop open a window, while still at my desk, and have a decent idea if I had just missed my bus... or if the bus was late... or what not. And, for the smartphony users, you... more »

Better connections to Caltrain

Caltrain works very well if you want to go quickly from San Jose to points north/west. VTA's light rail lines have some quite fast sections south of Downtown San Jose. Together, they could make a rapid transit network that can take transit riders all the way across the county quickly, in the way that freeways do for drivers. But the connections are often poorly timed, especially between the Caltrain and the Santa Teresa... more »

Quiet and Sanitized

If during the daily commute I can take a nap or listen to MP3, riding VTA will be a better choice than driving even it takes longer time.

However, I noticed often time there are people talking, music, or even body odor, etc... That is the unpleasant part riding public transp.

Clean is another issue. Flu and germs is a big reason people avoid public transp.

Fix bike racks on trains!

It is clear that whoever designed the current bike rack configuration on the VTA light rail trains never tested the system before installing it. With seats across from the racks, there is no room for someone to squeeze in and lift their bike up onto the racks while the seats are occupied. Having to lift the bikes is also difficult for many people who are short, have heavy or long bikes, or have disabilities. If they removed... more »

Extend Light Rail to the Airport!!!

Light rail us USELESS if you want to go to the airport. It goes NEAR but not TO the airport... Why would I want to fight with luggage to my car, in my car, out of my car, to the train, out of the train, then onto a bus, then out of the bus, then to wherever my airport destination is..... then all over again when I come back tired from my trip? when I can fight the luggage into the car, out of the car, into the... more »

Citizen-Focused Service Performance Management

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is, in part, a service-oriented organization. In order for a service-oriented organization to be successful, it must focus on providing high quality service to its existing customers. By doing so, existing customers become loyal and feel compelled to tell others about their positive experiences with the organization. Along with its organizational vision and mission,... more »

Lower Fares

My son and I used to frequently take Light Rail to places we wanted to visit, however the cost became so outrageously expensive that it is much cheaper to drive and park than to ride. The more the fares increase, the less people prefer to ride. We would prefer to go "green", but not at thosse prices.

Lower the fare rates and get more people to use VTA to travel.

TEXT for help

Add TEXT for help on buses and light rail. There are so many acts of http://www.vta.org/safety/streetharassment.html onboard VTA, it's like riding in hell and the devils don't like snitches on voice 911 calls. And even though Dan Smith says they could be pranks, if he knew his job at all he'd know VTA always calls the bus drivedr in route to confirm the trouble even the bus driver was too afraid to call in!
